Evidence and Photo Guidelines¶

This page explains photo evidence guidance for incidents.

Why accident-scene photos matter¶

Photos of the accident scene serve as direct evidence to establish accident authenticity, determine fault, and prevent fraud.

Photos can help accelerate the sharing request process, but safety always comes first.

Before taking photos, make sure it is safe. If the accident is minor and there are no serious injuries, move vehicles to a safe area if needed.

Helpful photos include:

Different angles, including wide shots of the scene and close-ups of specific damage.
All vehicles involved, not only the member's vehicle.
Damage on each vehicle and vehicle positions relative to each other.
License plates, make and model, and visible internal or external damage.
Traffic signals, stop signs, or other relevant road signs.
Road conditions, including skid marks, broken glass, car parts, weather conditions, or other contributing factors.
Timestamps, if enabled on the smartphone.
Visible injuries, when appropriate and respectful.

Members should be discreet and respectful of privacy and emotions at the scene. Do not interfere with emergency services while taking photos.

After reporting the incident, members should upload photos of the accident scene and vehicle damage through the GDC app or web process.
