Transportation, Roadside, Rental, and Travel¶
This page collects transportation assistance, rental guidance, roadside assistance, towing, and travel-related service rules.
Transportation assistance¶
Transportation assistance is optional. Users can choose whether to include it in quotes. If not included, the quoted amount excludes this item's price.
Transportation Assistance limits:
- Matching Declaration Page Limits: If the submitted declarations page includes coverage for Rental, Transportation Expense, or Loss of Use, the GDC quote uses the corresponding limits from the declarations page.
- Default limits: If those coverages are not found, GDC uses $40/day, up to 30 days, maximum $1,200.
GDC currently provides two transportation assistance methods:
- Rental: An Auto Damage Specialist may arrange rental car service through Vecto, including providers such as Hertz or Avis. If arranged this way, GDC pays Vecto directly. If the member arranges transportation independently, the member pays upfront and submits a sharing request with a paid invoice.
- Vecto Rideshare: Members may use Uber or Lyft rides while the car is being repaired. GDC provides a daily voucher. Unused daily amounts expire at the end of each day and do not carry over.
Members can add transportation assistance after the plan becomes effective. If selected and the member no longer wants it, it can also be removed after the plan becomes effective.
For drivable vehicles, assistance is limited to the repair duration. For non-drivable vehicles, assistance runs from occurrence of the eligible event to vehicle pickup readiness, or to disbursement of funds if it is a total loss.
Rental car guidance¶
GDC recommends major transparent rental brands, including:
- Enterprise Holdings, including Enterprise, National, and Alamo.
- Hertz Global, including Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty.
- Avis Budget Group, including Avis, Budget, and Payless.
Smaller rental companies may require proof of full coverage or a credit card with CDW coverage, or may require purchase of Collision Damage Waiver at the counter.
Members typically already have liability insurance that may extend to rental car use. Members should confirm coverage scope, duration, and vehicle restrictions with their insurance provider before traveling.
For rental car damage risk, members should prioritize existing benefits:
- Existing full coverage, if available.
- Credit card CDW benefits, if the full rental cost is paid with the card.
If an accident involves a rental car:
- If using full coverage, contact the insurance company to report the claim.
- If using credit card CDW, contact the card issuer to file a claim.
- If the member has no insurance or CDW, the member may submit a sharing request to GDC.
For rental car accidents while traveling, GDC is fifth in line after other driver's insurance, the member's auto insurance, the rental company's CDW, and credit card CDW.
Accident towing¶
Accident towing is included by the GDC Plan as part of the loss.
If a member pays out of pocket for a tow, the member can submit a reimbursement request to GDC and sharing contributions from members can reimburse them. If a member initiates an accident tow to a shop, the shop should pay the tow truck and include it in the repair estimate.
If the member is not at fault, the member must submit the tow bill to the at-fault insurance company.
If police are called to the scene and the vehicle is undrivable, police will arrange for a tow. The member should obtain the business name, address, and phone number of the tow destination.
If police are not called, the member can use Google search to locate a local tow service provider.
If the vehicle is not towed at the accident scene, or a tow is needed to the DRP from the original tow location, the Innovation DRP arranges the tow and includes tow charges in the estimate.
Roadside assistance¶
Roadside Assistance is available through GDC in partnership with Nation Safe Drivers.
Roadside Assistance includes:
- 24-hour emergency tire changes.
- 24-hour emergency fuel/fluid delivery.
- 24-hour lockout/auto locksmith services.
- 24-hour battery jump-starts.
- 24-hour non-accident towing to the nearest willing and capable repair facility or other locations such as a residence.
Before requesting service, the member must activate the roadside assistance benefit through the GDC App and read and sign the service agreement with NSD.
If the member did not select Roadside Assistance when joining, the member can add it after the plan becomes effective through Manage Plan. When added to an active plan, it typically takes 7 days to go live, and the pledge amount increases accordingly.
Once Roadside Assistance is included in the current plan, whether selected at joining or added later, it cannot be removed from that plan and is automatically included in renewal.
For new plans, users can enroll in NSD Roadside Service at quote time.
Once activated and the GDC Plan is active, members can request service in Dashboard > Report Incident / Assistance. NSD contacts the member by text or phone. Up to $100 toward the listed roadside assistance services is available to submit as a GDC Sharing Request. There is no deduction for Out-of-Pocket expense or Remaining Pledge Balance. Costs over $100, and costs of services or parts not listed, are at the member's expense.
Members do not need to set up a Stripe account to use roadside assistance.
Travel outside the United States and Canada exception¶
If a vehicle under a GDC Plan has an accident outside the U.S., sharing for repairs cannot be requested, except for the Canada exception described below.
For a GDC member driving the Planned Auto into Canada, incidents may be considered eligible under these conditions:
- The Planned Auto is driven into Canada for a short trip of up to 30 days.
- If the Planned Auto is drivable, it must be driven back to the U.S. and repaired at a GDC partner shop.
- If the Planned Auto is non-drivable in Canada, the member may tow or transport it back to the U.S. for repair at a GDC partner shop. Towing or transportation costs of up to 150 miles or $500 USD, whichever comes first, are eligible.
- Alternatively, the member may repair the vehicle at a local shop in Canada and request the eligible sharing amount to be disbursed directly to the member.
GDC does not provide Roadside Assistance services in Canada. If a GDC member selected Roadside Assistance and needs roadside support in Canada, the member may contact a local provider at their own expense and later request cost sharing for up to $100 USD of the roadside assistance expense.
